Comrat Legal Clinic
The League for Defence of Human Rights of Moldova in collaboration
with the American Bar Association/ Central European and
Eurasian Legal Initiative, with the financial support of
the United States Agency for International Development,
opened on October 17, 2003 the Comrat Legal Clinic within
the Law School of the Comrat State University.
Mission
The mission of the legal Clinic is to ensure the observance
of human rights in the "Gagauz-Yeri" Administrative
- Territorial Unit and to defend the persons harmed in their
civil, political and economic rights through all possible
legal means.
Objectives
The Clinic is to meet the following objectives:
- Providing help to all needy persons in defending their
rights;
- Improving the qualitative aspect of legal consulting and
of the access to justice in Gagauz-Yeri;
- Improving the professional knowledge and skills of volunteer
students.

Structure
The Comrat Legal Clinic represents an organisational structure,
created by the Comrat State University which provides free
of charge legal consulting and assistance to social-vulnerable
strata of population and develops the students' practical
skills on the basis of real cases and problems.
Clients and Beneficiaries
The Clinic will have three groups of beneficiaries and
audience capacity of 6 persons daily. The first group of
beneficiaries will be formed of vulnerable categories of
population:
- women;
- pregnant women;
- large families;
- young people;
- persons with disabilities;
- unemployed people;
- aged persons.
15-20 most active students of the Law School from the State
University of Comrat will form the second group of beneficiaries
and will benefit from practical knowledge and experience
from various administrative, civil and penal cases. The
students will be involved in activities of volunteerism
basis, being motivated by the experience they are to gain.
The Clinic will act within the university and will involve
in its activities some university lecturers. The students
working within the Clinic will be supported from the practical
and academic points of view.
The teachers of the Law School will benefit from literature,
logistics, Lex computer program, Internet services, etc.
Activities
- providing legal consulting;
- representation in the court;
- work with the legal framework;
- wok with databases;
- organising trainings and seminars for students;
- organising conferences, round tables;
- broadcasting radio programs;
- editing informative newsletters,
- publishing articles in national and local press.
The clinic's jurists and students-volunteers will assist
the citizens aappealing for help in submitting and supporting
their complaints and demands, will advice them which institution
they have to appeal to, will inform them about the court's
procedures and terms and will represent them, when necessary
in the court. In the case when the citizens could not be
able to come to the Clinic, the jurists will provide legal
assitance and consultance in the territory, that is they
will go to the certain village or town on this reason.

Working Schedule
The Clinic will work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between
9:00 - 15:00, having an audience of 6 persons daily. Two
professional lawyers and approximately 10 students volunteers
will be daily available to provide legal consulting and
assistance to interested persons.
